Capone Posted March 23, 2006 Report Posted March 23, 2006 I was trying to pull a flywheel off of a rusted motor, the flywheel puller actually broke. Well I replaced the bolt you tighten on the puller, then it actually pulled the threads off the inside of the flywheel instead of pulling the flywheel off. Well in the process of trying to get the flywheel off I think I may have broken the timing key. I had it in gear and turned the crank backwards, trying to get the remaining piece of the puller out(reverse thread) and I heard a pop. How do I know if I broke the key w/ the motor out of the bike? Also where is it located? Quote
fastbanshee4u Posted March 23, 2006 Report Posted March 23, 2006 The timing key is on the shaft under the flywheel.A key is just to index the timing. So when you install flywheel make sure you use a impact wrench to get tight or you will shear the key. Quote
Capone Posted March 23, 2006 Author Report Posted March 23, 2006 Thats right... I knew that...LOL. Any other worries I should check out? I'll be spliting the cases to drop the new crank in maybe I'll look around. Quote
