BANSHEE H Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 I feel like a retard here asking this question but you guys really helped me out on my last post. Ok my last post my 05 S.E. was running poor, back pressue, not holding an idle. Sure enough the second jet was clogged. ( stock bike K/N filter ) no mods. Ok here is my question it had been over two months since I rode it when this occured, however I had been periodically starting it up for several minutes at a time to insure the motor oil was able to lube the motor. How can I prevent this from occuring again the next time I take it out?. What causes a jet to clog? could it be old gas ( which it had in it) (mixing two different types of premix oil instead of staying with just one type) ( could it be caused from sitting and not being ran or only ran for a few minutes at a time). Like I said I feel like a retard for asking this but the last thing I want is to take it out to the coast and have this happen again. Should I leave the bike on an empty tank and run it till it's out of fuel and dies then only put fuel in it when I take it out? Quote
sredish Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 (edited) jet to clog.... dirt in the fuel tank or fuel system can do this. as the fuel passes through, the piece of dirt will also and clog the jet as it passes... think kidney stone.... also, if it sat for a long while, it could gel up some and clog that way as well. if it sits for long periods, mix some fuel stabilizer in there as well. I would quit periodically starting it up, just get the stabilizer and leave it. starting it up is hardest on wear because the oil has drained down and the first few turns the motor takes is the hardest on wear. go to the local shop and pick up an inline fuel filter, and be sure to keep the fuel going in clean and keep it sealed in the tank good. then mix some stabilizer in and leave it alone until your ready to ride next time. you can drain the float bowls as well when you put it up with the little drain covers at the bottom. Banshee~ Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 Clean your filter more often and get the in-line fuel filter like sredish said (any motorcycle store will have them). Also, I wouldent mix two different synthic oils together because some say they might have a bad reaction together. During the winter months I like to start mine atleast once a month and let her run for 5 minutes or more (be sure to rejet if it gets alot colder in the winter where you live).. Quote
dennybyz Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 never run the bike out of gas ....as you said ....turning the gas off and running bike till its out of fuel ..it will scream real loud and free rev by itself this is very bad...very very bad and saying your a retard isnt right the only reason anyone knows anything is from experience alone .....
