Bansheerook Posted March 17, 2006 Report Posted March 17, 2006 Ok. I got it into 6th with new plugs. I turned the air screws a half turn in so now their 1.5 turns out. It doesn't stall out at all in first anymore. I took the plugs off after getting it through all six gears w/WOT( all 6 felt good) and putting to my buddies house about .25 miles away. The plugs seem really dark brown. Really dark. My plug chop sucks ass. There is no silver in it I just didn't have a hacksaw and improvised. I will do the other plug after buying a HS if need be. The color goes all around the plug. Looks rich to me. I have 280 mains, stock 25 pilots and air screws 1.5 turns out. I'm tempted to put the 260 mains and 30 pilots ( like fmf recommended ) in to see what happens. What do you guys think? Thx. Attached image(s) Quote
MILO Posted March 17, 2006 Report Posted March 17, 2006 that .25 mile put to the your buddy's house may have caused them to be really dark (rich). you need to kill the motor after the 6th gear w/o run. either coast it home, or take old plugs with you to swap out for the ride home. looks like your getting close though, under the circumstances. try it again bud. Bansheerook Posted March 17, 2006 Author Report Posted March 17, 2006 (edited) Damn it. Thank You. I just read that on Jetting Faq too. Ok, Im going to buy new plugs and try it over again. Quick ? If FMF says I should staart with 260 mains and 30 pilots, would stock pilots and 280 mains be close or do the pilots control a different part of the jetting process. The reason I'm scared is because everyone says I should run jets that bog it down in higher gears and then drop main sizes from there. I didnt do that because I could only get 280s at the time. Now i'm close. If my next plug chop looks good should I still go up in mains and make sure it bogs at higher gears w/wot? I did get some 300 mains now. Or should I call it good and start riding like I stole it. Thx for all the help. I'll be posting a pic pretty soon. Shes starting to come along. Edited March 17, 2006 by Bansheerook Quote
sredish Posted March 17, 2006 Report Posted March 17, 2006 Keep the 280's in and try again. Fuck FMF, they wouldn't know how to jet their own machines.... Quote
Bansheerook Posted March 17, 2006 Author Report Posted March 17, 2006 LMFAO Alright then. This fuckin rain needs to stop. I'll get back and give my results when I get a chance to take it out. Quote
Bansheerook Posted March 18, 2006 Author Report Posted March 18, 2006 Ok I piinned it in six gear and killed the sw, etc, etc. It looks like I have a rich reading. Clors right but I have soot marks and its about 4mm tall. The only thing I doidnt do is keep the throttle pinned after killing the engine. What effect would this have on the plug read? I think I'm going to go ahead and put hte 260's in. What do you think? Thx Quote
sredish Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 if you think your still a tad rich, why go 2 sizes. why not work it slow and go to 270 and recheck. BTW, what's your elevation? Quote
Bansheerook Posted March 18, 2006 Author Report Posted March 18, 2006 Elevation is 500. I was going to go 2 sizes and then put the 30 pilot jet in like was suggested when I bought the set up. I probably need to let it go, what was suggested by fmf(260 mains and 30 pilots), but it keeps poppin in my head that I should try there recomended set up. Do I need to get that out of my head? How many sets of plugs am I going to use before I'm dialed in? Little frustrated. Thx for the replies. Quote
sredish Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 I'm not going to tell you what you need because I haven't seen the plugs, ridden the bike or nothing. What I can say is, I've seen time and time again, a person come on here have problems with their bike, problems with jetting and it falling back to the mfg's recommendations. The recommendations are hardly ever where they need to be. Honestly, I have a hard time believing a piped banshee at 500' needs a 260 or even a 270. I ran 310 mains in my FMF piped stock banshee at 620'. I'm not saying you need to do this or that, I'm just saying be sure your checking your plugs properly before you start leaning your bike out beyond the norm. Quote
Bansheerook Posted March 19, 2006 Author Report Posted March 19, 2006 Ok. I did do a plug chop at 270. Looks pretty close. 2mm. light choc. Didn't stall out in any gears. Felt pretty good about it. My buddy just got his Kawasaki 400 out after running Curtis Sparks pipes and a K&N. He wanted to drag me on dirt. Ha Ha Ha. Wasn't even close. I smoked him from start to finish I want to make sure I'm dead on with the jetting so I'll probably test it again. Thx for the help on this topic. Quote
