Coogs04 Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 New to the site and the world of Banshee. Was looking around for a trail bike and an old friend is selling his 03 Banshee race ready for $3500. So I took a look at it. Has normal wear and tear and a lot of custom work done to it. I was looking to get a Rapptor but this to me from my research and what I know seems to b a good deal. Found this comment online that has me wondering should I go with something else: "Also you have a little more maitenance w/ a two stroke. more fouled plugs, gas going bad and cleaning your spark arrestor." R these things hard to do, r something that if showed a person that isnt a mechanic could do? What general maintence will I be facing if I purchase this bike? Thanks in advance for all your help. Wallrat Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 Fouled plugs? A properly jetted 2 stroke needs its plugs changed about every 1-2 years. Bad gas? All gas goes bad. Just label one jug and use that one only for mixed gas. That way when ur done riding you can just dump the unused/unmixed gas in ur truck. Cleaning your spark arrestor? Um...well ya I guess you could take a rag and wipe down the outer ring after a ride. Maybe they mean change the silencer packing? Regardless, you'll have soot buildup and have to change packing on a 4 stroke too. 2 strokes generally have a little more minor upkeep. The top end needs to be done every few years so that automatically makes people think OMG, don't get a 2 stroke. In reality, doing the top end takes about 30 minutes once you've done it a few times. I've torn down both 2 strokes and 4 strokes, and I'd rather wrench on a 2 stroke anyday. Quote

Also, after I ride before putting it up is there anything I should do? Quote
MYquadsFaster Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 the top end is the cylinders, the head and piston area the lower end is the crank and tranny Quote
greg_banshee Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 Top End job = pistons, rings, gaskets, and cylinders bored. any bike is prone to break something regaurdless of 2 stroke or 4 stroke just that a 2 stroke is cheeper & easier to fix. and yes you can do the minor upkeep maintenance on a 2 stroke even if ur not a mechanic & if ya have any questions you always have the HQ !!
