scotts96fast Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 (edited) I replaced the spark plug wire boot and end. Before doing so I notice it had a resistor built in at the end.I never knew this. One wire tested very high and the other very low.The ends were loose and just worn out.To repair the end of the wire the resistor needed to be cut off to work with a fresh end of the wire.. Will this cause any problems?I was told it might have a hotter spark... I'm going to change to the br8es plug instead of the b8es plug if the matters. Why have the resistor built in the plug wire and the factory wants you to run a resistor plug??? Thanks Edited February 14, 2006 by scotts96fast Quote
dawarriorman Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 2000 and before the recommended plug was b8es, while 2001 and after they recommend the br8es. The resistor is supposed to stop interference in your electrical system. You know, that way you won't hear that whine on your stereo Im pretty sure it doesn't really matter though, cuz I ran the non resistor plugs for a while, then decided to switch for the hell of it, plugs still look the same. scotts96fast Posted February 15, 2006 Author Report Posted February 15, 2006 Just went to ngk's website and the br8es is a 5.0 ohm resister and the manual states the plug wire is 5.0 resistor also. I will run the br8es so the guy riding next to me will have a nice sound from his stero..... ...lol Quote

However, it is supposed to limit the possibilty of causing interference with the CDI. Now, some may have no problem with CDI interference without resistor wires or plugs, but if you do it's gonna suck. I think you're right on running the resistor plugs just in cause. Plus as long as you don't buy them at the stealership, they're basically the same price. I get a pretty good deal from a buddy that owns a NAPA here, but I think for me it's only like 37 cents/plug between BR8ES and B8ES. Quote
