socki18 Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 i have to replace the carrier bearings and need to know what size the 2 rear axle nuts are? also are they a normal thread or reverse? any hints on how to pop them loose too would be great!!!!!!! thanks guys Quote
crazywheelerman365 Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 Not sure on size but i do know their standerd thred not reverse! And a pipe rench works wonders... Quote
socki18 Posted February 14, 2006 Author Report Posted February 14, 2006 that wont f**k the threads up real bad? Quote
crazywheelerman365 Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 No ! That is if you are talking about the 2 jam nuts on the axle right !? It may scratch up your nuts a little though Quote
socki18 Posted February 14, 2006 Author Report Posted February 14, 2006 yah the 2 large jam nuts that are against the sprocket or at least on that side. id prefer to use a wrench but if it comes down to it ill use a pipe wrench. if anyone knows the size? thx Quote
mike23 Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 I think they're metric size 22. Not 100% sure. If they've never been off before you're gonna need a big pipe wrench and really big cheater pipe. Quote
brilei5 Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 I use two big 18" adjustable wrenches. putting them back on and keeping the prorer pressure on the bearings is not any fun either. IF you have the spare change a billet collar type of replacement is the NUTS... punn intended. Quote
Hilarious Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 If I'm not mistaken, they are 50mm. Quote
crazywheelerman365 Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 If I'm not mistaken, they are 50mm. 473595[/snapback] 50 sounds close! The biggest rench I got is 27 mm and that aint even close!! Quote
Hilarious Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 (edited) Yeah, my Clymer's manual says its 50mm I got one of those axle nut wrenches that motion pro makes and a BFH and made quick work of taking the nuts off and putting them back on. Edited February 14, 2006 by Hilarious Quote
socki18 Posted February 15, 2006 Author Report Posted February 15, 2006 thx guys. all of this will come in handy when i start workin on it in a bit!!! Quote
wesw Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 if the axle and carrier is still on bike you need to put it in gear, and have some one stand on teh brake. get a huge ass cresent wrench, and about a 3 ft cheater pipe. like mentioned earlier. and have at it. they can be a pain. Quote
milo_32000 Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 50 MM or 2 inch,plus a GOOD cheater pipe !!!! Milo_32000 Quote
