Why can't we ever agree on anything?

Okay here's the deal. I'm wanting to get this bike, but the frame has been painted and the vin number is now gone. What can we do here? I have to be able to insure it.

California registrations have the engine VIN on them as well. Dunno about elsewhere tho... Engine # is not the same as the frame #. I'd tell the guy to sand off the paint over the VIN's or its no deal. Worst thing that could happen is you don't buy it. Prolly won't even have to take the paint completely off. Just a few passes with some sandpaper and you should be able to make the #'s out enough to verify em.

In Utah they haven't started matching engine numbers on atv's yet, but I think on motorcycles you can cross check to see if you have a stolen engine in your titled frame.

But like the others said, the numbers aren't the same.

How do you guys with the painted frames get by without a readable vin?

The bikes not stolen I'm sure of that. I can't see a guy putting that much time and money into a stolen frame.

But I have to be able to register it for the roads and get it insured. I just don't see how I could without a vin. Anybody got any ideas.
