Polish Posted January 12, 2006 Report Posted January 12, 2006 I have polished many alum parts on my shee........... after I have polished all my parts i have cleaned all the parts and they are very dry! My question is..........to keep the shine on my parts can a high gloss clear coat be sprayed on them to protect the shine?............I was told that this is what all the high profile chopper builders do to keep it looking show quality! Let me know Quote
Shee-Male Posted January 12, 2006 Report Posted January 12, 2006 I used to polish alum as a side biz, and I always found that the surface is so smooth that the clearcoat dosn't stickl, it just cracks or peels off, or it will tarnish underneath and you gotta peel it all off. That realy sucks. When you paint bare metal you have to use a etching primer, and of corse that would defeat the purpose. I'm sure it would be fine for a chopper that is 90% show and never sees the trails. From my experiance I suggest against it. Unless you use clear powdercoat, but if it dose chip or get scraped that spot will tarnish and start the visious circle all over again! Quote
