Hot Ignition Set-ups?

Hey Guys...

What are the hot set-ups for ignitions for a stock Banshee?

I only have an air filter and TT6 pipes.

Is the advance plate worth anything?

This is not a priority for me, but I figure it will have to be upgraded in time.

I was looking at the MSD, but I read that the battery pack doesn't last too long.

im very fond of +5 timing advance ,cut flywheel ,Nology coil/wires on platinum plugs

,if i were you id be looking at a 35$ ricky stator timing plate first before the $$$$ cdi and hotter coil kits .

Timing plate is definitely worth it. As the others have said, I've heard a lot of good stuff about the Nology systems and plan on upgrading myself over the winter.

Does the RS timing plate have tuning instructions?

What would a stock Banshee be set at?

Also,

Is there an advantage to using the Ricky Stator 200w stator on a stock bike?

The Ricky Stator timing plate does not come with any tuning instructions. Most commonly people will set with 3-5 degrees advance on most bikes. With a ported bike I have heard of some running 7-8 degrees advance. For a stock bike (not pipes I assume, but maybe you still have stock pipes either way) you should be fine running 3-4 degrees advance. Especially with stock pipes I don't know that you would notice much above that, but I'm not positive. The Ricky Stator 200w will allow you to run better lights without the risk of overloading the stock stator. I don't know that it would provide any performance advantage over a stock stator on a stock bike.

Mod your stock plate if you are looking to save that $35. Takes like 10min with a dremel and a carbide cutting blade. $35 aint that much, but if you wanna pinch a penny or two. I had my stock plate modded until I got my ricky stator plate shipped out.

Can you honestly feel the difference between the stock setting and the performance settings?

Also, Does this replace the adjustable timing plate and performance coil?

ya, there is a big difference in the settings. I got mine from trinty, they take out the dyna curves and put in their own. the cdi box is made to work with stock coil and wires. when i got mine i was running b9es ad no load caps, that didn't work, put the stock stuff back on and now no problem. as far as the timing plate, i left mine on, set to zero. I adjust my timing with the box now.

I run the MSD ignition, and I don't have any problems with the battery not lasting, but I got the charging circuit, that plugs in between the stator and the voltage regulator. It keeps the battery charged, as long as the RPM,s are above 3500. I also bought a charger, that you can plug into a 110 outlet, at Radio Shack. It's a great set-up, the MSD, because you can set everything by dip-switches, on the back of the box. It does take a while to install, compared to the others, because it doesn't just plug in to the stock wiring harness, and it comes with its own coil. You have to change out a lot of parts to put it on, but once you're done, it's great.
