Banshee~ Posted November 26, 2005 Report Posted November 26, 2005 Take the carb off and see what size main is in there stock and go up about 2 sizes and see how it runs. Im no expert, but I dident even rejet for my K&N and it ran fine. And some slip ons you dont have to rejet so Quote
bansheefreestyler Posted November 26, 2005 Author Report Posted November 26, 2005 158 main is stock? so what would i go to? Quote
wesw Posted November 26, 2005 Report Posted November 26, 2005 doesnt your kit come with suggestions. do a search for your pipe i think on his site there is info for jetting. Quote
wesw Posted November 26, 2005 Report Posted November 26, 2005 Jetting: 172 main, needle in the #6 position. Run with the airbox lid removed. from dr d site. searching is very useful http://www.dubachracing.com/products.aspx?lCatID=6 Quote
bansheefreestyler Posted November 26, 2005 Author Report Posted November 26, 2005 ya i already read that. that doesnt help though because it does say for what elevation? does it matter? and does it matter if i move the needle or not? Quote
wesw Posted November 26, 2005 Report Posted November 26, 2005 try what they suggest. youmight have to lower your mains do some plug chops call dr d up when ever talk to someone that knows tech im sure they can help you out Quote

In your case due to the difference in elevation, I think you would be good to go with a 165, maybe 168 main jet. For now, I would leave the needle alone...You'll wanna adjust your fuel screw too, I think mine is at 2.75 turns out. Don't worry about it though, you won't burn it up if your jetting is off a little. It took me at least 2 or 3 trips out before mine was jetted right. If you're riding it and it doesn't feel right, read this article and it can help you determine which way you need to go on the jetting. It's mainly for two strokes but the principle behind it is the same. (lean/rich conditions, etc.) http://www.dfn.com/agservices/jetfaq.html Quote
bansheefreestyler Posted November 26, 2005 Author Report Posted November 26, 2005 thanks a million big boy. that is such a help. thanks soo much man helps me out alot Quote
bigboybanshee Posted November 26, 2005 Report Posted November 26, 2005 Glad I could help! You'll like the pipe and air filter mods, if it's not nasty outside (weather wise) pull the airbox lid off and go up a size on the main jet. I noticed a respectable gain just by doing that And if you feel really frisky, get the cam mod done. It gives you an extra horsepower or two and makes the bike run smoother overall. And the best thing about it is it's free and you don't have to replace the valve cover gasket, you can re-use it! There's a pretty informative post on www.yfzcentral.com on how do do it with pics... I'm not sure if you know this, but changing the main jet on the 450's carb is REALLY easy. If you look at the bottom of the carb, there is a 17mm bolt right smack in the middle of the carb bowl. All you have to do is remove that bolt and the main jet is right behind it. You don't even have to take the bowl off; it's just that easy. I know you're having a mechanic take care of this now, but if you need to change out the main jet for fine tuning, it's really freakin easy and you can do it with just a few hand tools at your house. Checking the plug is simple too. Remove the plastics above/around the gas tank, pull the two bolts that hold the gas tank in, slide it out and there sits your coil on top of the plug. 15, 20 minutes tops... You can do it freestyler!! Quote
