speed_demon Posted November 9, 2005 Report Posted November 9, 2005 I didn't have much time to go riding this summer but I plan to this winter. I adjusted the needles because I live in Alaska and it's hella cold and now it idles really high. Do I need a smaller pilot jet and if so what size do you think I need? I have 230 main I think. Thanks Quote

speed_demon Posted November 9, 2005 Author Report Posted November 9, 2005 Ok the temp is about 10 to 20 degrees, I'm just above sea level, and I have T6 pipes stock carbs, stock air filter but i run with the lid off. need anything else? Quote
NEVER SATISFIED Posted November 9, 2005 Report Posted November 9, 2005 (edited) WHEN YOU ADJUSTED THE NEEDLE DID YOU GO RICH (MOVE CLIP DOWN) OR LEAN (MOVE CLIP UP)... AND DID IT START TO IDLE HIGH AFTER THE NEEDLE CLIP CHANGE? .. you jet up for the winter months!! Edited November 9, 2005 by NEVER SATISFIED Quote
speed_demon Posted November 9, 2005 Author Report Posted November 9, 2005 I moved the clip down but it was idling high before I changed anything Quote
NEVER SATISFIED Posted November 10, 2005 Report Posted November 10, 2005 you check your carb slides? i use a lil bit of oild on mine... sometimes they stick in the winter... also if it runs fine then just adjust the idle screws... Quote
Hilarious Posted November 10, 2005 Report Posted November 10, 2005 I have 230 main I think. Just my .02$. If its 10 to 20 deg outside and you are running a toomey exhaust with no air box lid and 230 main jets in, you are lean. You may have it jetted pretty good in the midrange from lowerin the clip on your needle but sounds to me like you're lean on top. But that aint got nuthin to do with it ideling high. Check your carb slides and put some 330 mains in it and get an aftermarket air filter like a K&N or UNI foam set up. Quote
2003LimitedBanshee Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 I would guess that you certainly do not have 230 mains, unless you haven't run it like that yet, because it wouldn't last long if at all with 230's and the Toomey's. So first check the mains, I would also guess that 320-330 would probably be close. If you have a high idle condition, that is a pretty much certain indication of a lean situation, and because your's is at idle that is on the pilot circuit. Given the air temp, elev etc. I would go with a 27.5 or maybe even a 30 pilot. I run a 27.5, when I ride at sea level, but it is usually 55-65 degrees, so you may be a 30 pilot. Quote
