VinceDizzy Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Hey! I got some CPI's a couple of trips ago. They're great except for one problem. The o-ring that supposedly "seals" the exhaust, the one that sits in between the cylinders exhaust flange and the headers, always gets blown out? I dont know how messy liquid exhaust seal is? Or if anyone makes any type of high temp exhaust tape to wrap the flanges with to make a tighter seal. -thanks Quote
Big Blue Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 What o rings are you using? All you should need are some thicker ones. I used some out of a cometic gasket kit and they worked fine. Quote
VinceDizzy Posted July 28, 2005 Author Report Posted July 28, 2005 Yah im using the ones form the complete cometic set. So "they" do make ones that are thicker but not a bigger diameter? Quote
yammerhammer98 Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 I had that problem with an aftermarket pipe on an old YZ several years ago. I ended up using some JB Weld on the seal, and it worked great. In fact, it sealed so well that I had to pry the pipe off when I rebuilt the top end 2 years later. Seems like a desperate move, but it worked for me! Quote

RNBRAD Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 I think all pipe manufacturers ought to put double o-rings in the header pipe. Quote
trex banshee Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 i just used high temp rtv silicone. make sure your exhaust flanges are clean of all oil and the pipe. then apply a nice thick bead of silicone and put your pipe on and let it set for 24 hours atleast. i know its really tempting to fire your shee but if you don't want it to leak you will wait.
