strokersquid Posted July 16, 2005 Report Posted July 16, 2005 trying to measure some rz barrels i have and bought a storm brand bore gauge but it didnt come with instructions and they did not respond to my letter. when you choose a bar length ( in most cases 2.6 " ) and get a measurement in thousands of an inch from the dial do you then subtract this ( after all the measurement is how much the cylinder wall is indenting the gauge ) from 2.6 " ? Then when you inset the bore gauge into the bore, you can see how much over or under the cylinder bore is actually measuring in different locations within the bore.....Jim Quote

rocketboy Posted July 16, 2005 Report Posted July 16, 2005 (edited) at my work, i usually use a precision grinder vise with ceramic gage blocks of the ideal target number inserted in to the jaws for a gage size, then i have a precision master reference within .0001 .it seems you will not have this luxary ...so you could just get your self some 2-3 inch micromteres (that are calibrated dead on ) and use this as your size reference. once yo u have the mics set for your perfect size diameter. or yo u could buy an interanl diameter gage (flexbarr makes some) but that will be very pricey for the average joe). so now yo u know why its sometimes best to just send stuff out and have a qualified shop check it out .
