Rare Scottish Tree Badger Posted July 8, 2005 Report Posted July 8, 2005 ... that a Scotsman invented the two-stroke? His name was Dugald Clerk. ... Between 1878 and 1881 he developed an engine which used a second cylinder and piston to force the fresh mixture into the working cylinder. It sounds a bit crude, but it worked! Rare. Quote
Holyman Posted July 8, 2005 Report Posted July 8, 2005 It all makes sense now... Dugald sitting there in the pub, his beer running low and his pockets are empty. He sees the guy next to him looking the other way and he pours some of the other guys beer into his. He then realized how smoothly the world could run if you could get someone else to pour beer in your glass while you swallow the beer you just drank. You could do twice as much drinking if all you had to do was put the glass on the bar. The 2 stroke engine was born. Quote

bansheefreestyler Posted July 8, 2005 Report Posted July 8, 2005 so how are the 4 strokes made into 2 then with that? if he used the second cylinder wouldnt it still have to compress it in the main cylinder? i duno Quote
Timmy301 Posted July 8, 2005 Report Posted July 8, 2005 If he was using a cylinder to force the mixture in to the motor then i would have to suspect that he was not able to figure out how to make the Reed Valve work. Quote
