pimpeinkc Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 okay, i thought i would ask you all before i go and tear into my bike. i locked it up a while back, and figured while i was fixing it i would do some upgrades. i put in a fresh set of 60 over pistons, changed my domes from 17 cc to 21 cc. iadded a 2 into 1 intake with a 35 mm carb. i still have every thing else the same, toomey t6 pipes, dyna ignition, the bike is not idling unless i use the cable adjustment, but even with a new cable and a ghetto spacer i made to give me more travel on the cable it is almost out of adjustment and now it likes to stick open every so often and that sucks. i have a 195 main and 52 pilot jet in it now. needle on 5th clip and screw out 2 turns. i did have a 42 pilot and then i went to a 48 and so on, still wont idle with out the cable being pulled out some. any help would be great. so i ask, should the bike idle with out the cable installed. it is a keihin pwk 35mm and if so, what should i check, could therer be a part in the carb that is not there or not right. and question 2, what do you all think the jetting should be for this type of set up, i just need to get close and i can make it from there. thank you all Quote
sredish Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 That pilot sounds alright. I don't know if this is your problem or not BUT..... I've seen a few cases where, with the Keihen PWK single, the carb won't open the slide enough to allow it to idle. What I did in these cases was, completely remove the plastic idle screw and spring. Then, cut the idle spring in half, so you have two smaller springs, then take the smaller one and reinstall it and the screw and see if you can then screw it in enough to open the slide enough. Like I said, I've had that happen several times with the single PWK. If you adjust the throttle cable slack to where it opens the slide up to idle and it idles fine, chances are that's your problem. Good luck. Scott Quote

Scott 384553[/snapback] that is what i was thinking. i got it used, so i was thinking maybe there was a part missing in there, cause the screw was all the way in. that sounds like a useable piece of info there bro. that is why i thought i would post before i took the carb apart and checked it against an I.P.B. illistrated parts break down for those who don't know what that is. thanks. and so you think i should be close with that jetting with the 21 cc domes and the t6's Quote
pimpeinkc Posted June 23, 2005 Author Report Posted June 23, 2005 That pilot sounds alright. I don't know if this is your problem or not BUT..... i tried the spring thing and i think it is going to work, but i think i am rich on the pilot jet when i am at idle it still wants to die. so i pulled out the choke and poof, dead. so that means i am too rich, right? i have a 52 pilot jet in it now, what you all think? also i have a 195 main, no real porting, mostly a cleanup. t6 pipes. sredish Posted June 23, 2005 Report Posted June 23, 2005 Maybe. Try a 48 or 50 and see if it's better. When the motor is fully warmed, it's normal for the motor to not want to run well with the choke pulled. Quote
pimpeinkc Posted June 25, 2005 Author Report Posted June 25, 2005 i will try it this weekend and let you know how it works. thanks Quote
