baddboyy21 Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 I just added 34mm carbs to my 12 port stroker. I need advice on moving the air box back farther to fit the new carbs. Anyone have a pics of theirs? Id like to keep the stock airbox using my K&N adapter set-up. Thanks in advance. Shawn Quote
yanks5164 Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 well if u kno sumone who welds build ur owns custom air box its cheap, looks kool and might perform better just an idea or u can just put sum clamp on filters and rid of the box Quote
fixitrod Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 Do a search. Blue Duece had a pic a while back. Basically you can zip tie it on. I had so many problems with the boots that pods went on it during my trip to glamis recently. I love having an airbox on it for water and mud. It's an aftermarket box and the boots were slipping off. I should have just keep my stock box. The boots I was using were made by upp... junk. They stay way to slippery even after and sos pad. Quote
njbanshee Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 If you cut the air box, where it connects to the rubber boots that then connect to the carbs they will fit and still work fine. You may have to trim the rubber boots too. Its a tight fit but you can do it. Quote
fixitrod Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 Just make sure there enough flange left to be the width of a regular hose clamp plus just a little. Even if you are using the skinny clamps. Quote
baddboyy21 Posted April 4, 2005 Author Report Posted April 4, 2005 Okay...did the search for Blue duece...found the post...no pics though lol. I PMed hom. I already have the 2 plastic intake tubes cut from my last carbs. I guess I will try and cut the boots a little also. It looks like it would be VERY tight without moving the box a little. Quote
Ducman Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 My 34mm TM Mikunis fit using the stock airbox with about 1/2" between the airbox and the carbs. I had to loosten the airbox and move it back to get enough room to get the carbs in. It was a real PITA though and I went to pods for ease of changing jets because I had to do a lot of tuning to get the carbs dialed in. I never put the stock box back on. I got K&N's for the sand and uni's for dirt. You may want to get some uni pods ($25) while your doing your tuning and put the box back on when its dialed, zip tie the coolant overflow to something in the meantime. You can get another 1/2" of space by trimming the stock airbox runners. I have some silicon carb boost for the stock box and 34mm carbs that are buggered up on one edge (had to trim a small spot off the edge to get to the air screw). You can have them for $5 shipping fee if you want to try trimming them down. The boots are a rip off new and it sucks to be carving them up for as much as they cost. Quote
rebelbanshee2 Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 heres what I did....First you will need a new intake on the carn side. then go to the hardware store and get some rubber plumbing fittings. 2" ID i think. I found some that had grooves for hose clamps and everything. these are for the air box side. The fittings are going to be quite a bit longer than stock plus the added length of the carbs the air box is going to have to go back alot. I cut the tool holder type thing out along with the mounting tabs and zip tied the air box to the frame It ended up working grat and is easier to jet than with the stock airbox....i really wish I had pictures...
