MILO Posted March 23, 2005 Report Posted March 23, 2005 the stealership hasn't gotten all of my clutch parts in yet so i'm looking for other things to tinker with and hmmm, my rear brake pads need changed. no biggie, right? one of the bolts for the pads turned out about 1 full turn and then froze up. so i soaked it down with wd-40 and slowly turned it back in. soaked and worked that bolt in and out for 20 minutes till it finally came out. damned if it didnt' still mess up the threads inside the caliper and the bolt. the bolts no bid deal, but i do not want to replace a caliper for that bullshit. i don't have a tap set, or thread cleaner to work with it, so i'm gonna try to hit up the shop to fix it, or take it to work and have my buddy in maintenance fix me up. hopefully!! why is it that the simplest jobs always turn into a bitch of a job. Otis Posted March 23, 2005 Report Posted March 23, 2005 Can you throw a heli-coil in it??...thats a pretty simple fix. Quote
Ducman Posted March 23, 2005 Report Posted March 23, 2005 At least it wasn't a stud in your cylinders when your were just trying to change domes. Sometimes its easy, sometimes the cards are stacked against you. Quote
J-Madd Posted March 23, 2005 Report Posted March 23, 2005 I have story after story about the same type of bullshit. Easy shit gone bad.The major problem is Yamaha in general. Don't get me wrong, I love my Banshee and My YFZ. I've had many Yamahas and the one thing they all had in common is: 1. They all ran good. 2. Any bolt that shouldn't come loose by itself WILL COME LOOSE BY ITSELF. Especially at the most inopportune time. 3. Any bolt that shouldn't be very tight will either A: strip out, or B: Break off. Honda's don't seem to have this problem IMO, but don't run as good either. Quote
MILO Posted March 24, 2005 Author Report Posted March 24, 2005 well the dealer hooked me up at no cost. straightened out what was left of the threads enough to get a bolt back in. i figured if i just snug it up, and put the locking tab back over it it will be fine. it's not like it needs to be tight anyway. i like seeing other stories like mine, it makes me feel better know someone else has bad luck from time to time too. rptorman Posted March 25, 2005 Report Posted March 25, 2005 I know what you mean. I was taking the calipers off the front today and one of the bolt heads rounded off. Finally got enough head in the socket to get it loose. Now I just need to get a new bolt to stuff in there. Good luck, I hope it holds for you. Quote
