dawgfan Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 Will yfz 450 shocks bolt right up to my Shee? I am in the market for some new ones, but don't have a lot of dough to spend on them. I noticed there are a lot of them for sale on ebay for pretty good prices. How would you rate these shocks? I was looking at a few sets of used Works double or triple rates, would these be that much better for the money? A friend says I should either fork out the cash for some Elkas, or save my $$ and buy stock yfz's, not to bother with Works for the price difference. Anyone agree? Oh, I don't race, just like to ride hard when I do. The only reason I want new shocks is cause I'm going to a +2 or+3 A-arm setup and don't want to put my old shocks on there. I probably really don't need anything as nice or expensive as Elkas, so what's everyone think would be the best for me to do? Quote

Thanks Quote
frocashmoney24 Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 cant remember eye to eye, 12 or 13 inches maybe? you can run 450 shocks and they do ride damn good! you have to do a small amound of grinding on the shock mounts i belive to get them in, but many people have done it, i think its a good route if your gonna get +2 arms, if you go with a +3 arm setup, your gonna need custom long travel shocks, so you better start saving Quote

njbanshee Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 I got the yfz 450 shocks on there with out grinding or making any changes. I have them on +2 a-arms and on an 04 limited frame. All you do is bolt the bottom in first, and then put one foot on the tire and the other on the resivour. They go right in. Ow, i did make on change. To get the top bolt in i used a drill to make the holes line up. Only took 15min. to get them both in.The front end sitts a little higher, but i'm gonna break in the shocks ans see if i can take some of the preload out. Quote
NYCBanshee7 Posted March 20, 2005 Report Posted March 20, 2005 I did alittle grinding on my upper shock mounts. I backed out all the preload and it didnt raise my front end at all. Definatley one of the best investments i have made. Quote
XxMeltIcexX Posted March 20, 2005 Report Posted March 20, 2005 The way i've heard it, is that you CANT fit yfz450 shocks on stock a-arms? is this correct, i have disputed with a friend of mine about this, i could have sworn if you just ground own the shock a little, but he says it hits the upper a-arm, and you need aftermarket a-arms for them to fit?? Pleasde clear this shit up! Thanks, Eric Quote
NYCBanshee7 Posted March 20, 2005 Report Posted March 20, 2005 They definatley fit on stock arms. I have seen many pictures on here of guys with them on. Just do a search. There is one thread where it is shown exactly where to grind. Quote

I have the shocks all mounted up, but i'm not sure how to take the preload out. How did you do it? When you take the preload out, what does it change about the shock? Are they softer, does it bottom out, i'm not familiar with what preload is at all, please explain. Quote
bbluebanshee Posted March 20, 2005 Report Posted March 20, 2005 i know they will fit on stack arms....here are mine... Quote
