Need For Speed Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 My friend just redid his shee from the ground up. New swing arm bearings everything. repainted frame, had jugs and cases polished. new top end, everything. His wife got preggo and he wanted to sell it. My nextdoor neighbor was looking to buy a shee and I got the two of them together and a deal was made. So now my neighbor has a mean shee. When he bought it he was told the carbs were not exactly synced perfect and it might be running a little lean. So my neighbor took it to the shop to get it fine tuned before he took it out riding for the weekend. Now when he test road it and took it around the block BEFORE he brought it to the shop it ran mean I mean the front end came off the ground in every gear it was fresh and powerfull. When he got it back from the shop who said it was running too lean and they put in bigger jets. My neighbor takes it back from the shop and took it up and down the street it was running great! the next day it will only idle. When you give it some gas it sits there and backfires and really runs like shit. He is taking it back to the shop who supposedly set it up correctly . Does anyone have any ideas? I checked that choke tube already and it seems fine. The neighbor said the only thing he did was wash it. Could a little water somewhere make it act like that? It has pro circut pipes and silencers with the snorkle removed and I think a couple of those plugs in the air box lid removed as well. I just feel bad Because I recomended the shop he took it too because that is where I had bought mine and mine was set up just right. Any suggestions would be great. Quote
ledofthezep Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 BEFORE he brought it to the shop 'nough said right there. My bet is he's got some moisture/water in the stator cover, causing his stator to misfire, leading to backfiring. That or junk in the carbs, I'd clean them anyway...better safe than sorry. Quote
Ducman Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 I would definitly not put it past a shop, even a good one to F-up the jetting on a banshee unless they have a person in the shop that knows what they are doing. A service manager/ mechanic for a local shop once told me that he has never, and would never put main jets larger than 290 in a highly modded stock stroke banshee. Thats why I told him that I he would never be working on my banshee. They will often say "dont listen to any jetting advice on the internet." Most of the advice I hear on the HQ is way more accurate than what a lot of dealers will give, except for about 1 salesman that I have met at the stealership that actually owns, rides and wrenches on his banshee. Give the complete list of mods and air box settup and we can recommend jeting close enough so we can get you dialed in or at worst it will at least run good and safe. Ask the shop what was the old jetting, what changes were made, whats the curent settings. You might just check it over, spray some w-D 40 in the spark plug boots, look for a mistake, because it sounds like something has been put back together wrong, not like the jetting is just simply off. rocketboy Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 as dumb as it sounds ,it may have ran a tad too rich and partially fouled a plug/plugs list the jetting Quote
Need For Speed Posted March 2, 2005 Author Report Posted March 2, 2005 as dumb as it sounds ,it may have ran a tad too rich and partially fouled a plug/plugslist the jetting 331820[/snapback] the first thing we did was change the plugs. That wasn't it. He took it back to the shop because he had allready paid the guy. The guy told him it was electrical it was some $35.00 part that goes in the stator. The shop guy charged him another $35.00 and it is running awsome now. We think they screwed something simple up and just to cover his ass the guy made something up after he fixed the problem. Thanks for all your guys help and suggestions. Quote
