Skyy Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 (edited) Before I start I want to apoligize for any miss interpretattion that my french canadian writing may cause OK I was telling my friend that I wanted to mill the head about 0.030 to get more compression. Than he told me that if I do so I should add 1 base gasket so that I have two gasket at the bottom and 1 head gasket. By doing that I actually raise my outlet and inlet ports, so that all the compression come out faster and that it leaves more time for gas to get in, that I could understand. Anyways would that make any sens? or is it just a bunch a crap or would you just do that for other reasons? Edited February 18, 2005 by Skyy Quote
Ducman Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 Rasing your exhaust ports by that method might yeild a small increase in top end HP but will also decrease hp and especially torque on the bottom end. It will result in decreasing you static compression and incorrect squish clearance (too much squish) since your piston wont be going all the way to the top of your cylinder. You'd be better off doing a little bit of reasearch on doing your own porting, busting out the dremmel and raising the exhaust ports the right way. Quote

And I am very satisfied! Runs great, you won't be sorry you did it!!! Quote
boonman Posted February 19, 2005 Report Posted February 19, 2005 What your buddy is speaking about is an old schoole way of beating the system in a stock class on a drag sled. You would be raising the port timing. It will work effectively on top end, but as mentioned, at the sacrifice of something else. You would see more of a gain across the board by having the head machined, and take the compression increase for what it's worth, and ride it. If you want to mess around with timing, get it ported by someone who knows banshees. Quote
