richybanshee Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 Smoke can come from a lot of oil in the premix, or the use of cheap oil, leaks, etc. I say try 340, If the shee does not like it go bigger or downsize. Quote
jonnyrebel2004 Posted February 17, 2005 Author Report Posted February 17, 2005 What about the pilot? Should I leave he needle where it is? Quote
richybanshee Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 I really do not know about the needle since porting will change a lot of variables and the main jet will affect all other jets. Just get the mains dialed in, do a wot in 5th or 6th and check plugs, look at the base of the plugs for a light chocolate brown, around the whole base. Then start on the needle, finally the pilots. jonnyrebel2004 Posted February 18, 2005 Author Report Posted February 18, 2005 I dont really know alot about jetting but here is what I am thinking: start with about a 340 main, leave the needle clip in the 4th position, where it is. I am think I should maybe go up on the pilots but not sure. Can someone give me a ballpark guess on the pilots? I am at 1020ft, if that hels any. Please I need some advice. Thanks Travis Quote
richybanshee Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 (edited) I would do this: 1. change mains to 340, put carbs and pipes. Then ride. If shee feels that it keeps pulling when throttle position is 3/4 and at 4,5, 6 gears do the plug chop method. Hopefully jetting will be near great, else keep trying, going bigger or downsizing. note: if shee feels heavie, or not pulling when throttle position is 3/4 probably then shee may be runnig lean.Go bigger on the mains. 2. After your ar finished dialing the mains, check the needle. Throttle position 1/4-3/4. Check how it runs and ckeck plugs. 3. Finally adjust the pilots, the ride it. Check throttle response and plugs. Forget about the pilots... for now. some times they are not so critical, but mains are. Edited February 18, 2005 by richybanshee Quote
Banchetta Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 I would start w/ what you originally had and go from there. I would think you were rich before anyways..Definately stay w/ the pilots you have now or even try some 27.5's or stock 25's...Larger pilots are most often not needed.. Quote
Ducman Posted March 2, 2005 Report Posted March 2, 2005 Start with # 340 mains, # 30 pilots (cause Banchetta would probably even run 25 pilots on a Chevy 454 J/K) air screws 1.5 turns out, needle on the middle or 4th clip from the blunt end, that is about where you should end up anyway and should be most likely rich enough to be safe at 340 but probably pretty close, not so rich that it wont run strong orl bog at WOT. Don't try to diagnose the jetting untill the motor is good and broke in because it will seem to run rich and bog more at first especially on the needle. Do a couple of heat cycles before riding it. Then do a couple of easy 15 min rides with a good 1 hr cool down. At the end of the first tank do some spirited riding to get it good and hot and clear out the excess oil from the case and cylinders. Install new plugs, ride it for 20 minutes to get some color on the new plugs. Now you are ready to start making jeting changes. Your motor will change a lot in the first couple hrs of break in, it will seam rich at first and then start to come in when the rings are set and the excess oil is cleared out. Quote
