First pull the carbs off & check to see what size the main jets are. While they are off, I would recommend a complete disassembly & thorough cleaning with carb cleaner. Get a Clymer manual & set the float heighth. Check the clip seeting on the needle. You might want to use the middle position as a starting point.Reinstall the carbs and pay close attention to idle settings, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 & full throttle settings. Adjust accordingly.Remember, main jet controls only 3/4 to full throttle positions. It sound like your carbs are TOO RICH! Quote
ledofthezep Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 It sound like your carbs are TOO RICH! Yepper. Check your jetting, maybe drop the mains down a size or two...work your way down until the blugs are a nice tanish brown color & not oil fouled. Also, what oil & mix ratio are you using in your go-go juice? Quote
sheerider11 Posted January 31, 2005 Author Report Posted January 31, 2005 i run a 290 jet and i have pipes air filter reeds and some other stuff and i ride at the oregon dunes on the coast my mix ratio is 40:1 Quote

PhillipSpearman Posted February 5, 2005 Report Posted February 5, 2005 I would say just stick with preimium, and try maxima 927 mixing oil. I have had really good luck with it. Also what kind of plugs are you using, I prefer NGK and they make one that is suppose to not foul out as easy, I believe the part number is BR8ES, but dont hold me to that. Quote
FIRST BANSHEE Posted February 5, 2005 Report Posted February 5, 2005 i run a 290 jet and i have pipes air filter reeds and some other stuff and i ride at the oregon dunes on the coast my mix ratio is 40:1 315062[/snapback] are you fouling your plugs while cruising around but it runs good at wot. 290 mains are in the ballpark for your mods, maybe a little lean for winter riding. what pilots are you using and try setting your clip in the second position from top. stock pilots are 25 I believe.
