MIAMIRIDER Posted January 25, 2005 Report Posted January 25, 2005 My dad owns a cnc milling machine and i am fairly familier with it. I was wondering if i would be able to bore my own engine. i wanted to know if anyone could give me any tips on how i would go about in doing this and what tools i would need to accoplish this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Quote
racer Posted January 27, 2005 Report Posted January 27, 2005 hmm, i dunno. i think you need a tool called a boring bar to do that. not just a regular end mill or something like that. Quote
rebelbanshee2 Posted January 27, 2005 Report Posted January 27, 2005 if you have to ask Im not sure its something you should be doing Quote
Machwon Posted January 29, 2005 Report Posted January 29, 2005 I use a boring bar to do cylinder boring as it has 10 inch stroke, you set up once and remove material from the bore in one full stroke. Most boring bars/heads using with a milling maching have trouble doing longer than a 4" stroke so you must move your setup and get it exactly reset again. I'm not saying it can't be done, just a huge pain, and done much easier with a boring bar. Quote
