I used carpenter screws that are about 3/4 of an inch long and run 2-4 in each piece of tread, depending on the tire. This provides great hook up on ice as I used this on my Banshee last year and am doing the same this year, except I might add studs. I don't know how many studs to run though...all I know is they give A LOT of traction. If you have the studs too long I think it makes it too hard to pull on top end.
