What would be the best size swing arm and brand for mx and trail

-2 and most guys will agree that quicksand makes some great swingers.

I'll agree on the -2 swingarm. If you go aftermarket make sure you get the Honda style round axle bearing carrier. Iv got a Janssen Racing -2 and its a great swingarm. 4130 chromoly, tigged up and chromed. Highly recommend a Janssen.

You definately want to go shorter. If you will be running A-arms that move the front wheels forward 1", then I suggest a -2" swingarm. If you will be using stock a-arms, then I suggest a -1" swingarm. The -2" swingarm with stock a-arms is a little wheelie happy imo.
