98TEAM ALBA Posted December 18, 2004 Report Posted December 18, 2004 I am having trouble with a friends shee. We went through the engine about a week ago and got everything put together and now we have no spark. It has a new stator and coil, wiring looks good. Does anyone know of a way to test the cdi box? Also if you hook and voltmeter to the orange and black coil wires and kick the bike over, how many volts should it have? I am leaning towards a cdi box because it only has about a half a volt showing when kicking the bike over. I know it has to take more than that to fire the coil. Any Ideas? Quote
stclark816 Posted December 19, 2004 Report Posted December 19, 2004 Take the CDI off ur banshee and put it on his and see if it makes a difference. If ur CDI works on his, then its more than likely a bad CDI. Quote
boonman Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 You can take the CDI to the dealer and have them test it I believe. I may be wrong though? In order to test it, I have always done what STClarke has mentioned, swap in a different unit. Now, make sure you have good grounds at the coil. The coil is mounted to the frame, and it gets a ground through the mounting bolt, as well as the black wire. Be sure the pickup coil is gapped properly. .020" I believe is the magic number. check out BenBB's Banshee electrical FAQ on his site. CLICK HERE to check that out. Also, be sure that the key is on, and the kill switch is in the run position. Sounds stupid, but it has been done before.... Quote
