Im probably sounding like a pest now...

Im in Ohio and it gets cold like 0degree sometimes.. *Not normaly*

But when the snow is out and its cold i wanna be able to ride..

Is it safe to ride the banshee in the cold? Ive rode it a couple times when it was 30ish degrees but not colder than that yet..

Anything i need to do to ride it in colder weather and such?

Just dont wanna blow it up or mess anything up im putting enough money into shee...

I live kinda close to you and I go 1-2 sizes bigger on my main. Depending how rich it is in fall. I always ride in winter. In fact last year me and my buds went on a riding trip to Marienville Pa for the weekend and the high was 7 degrees. No problem. But I let it idle untill the head is warm to touch and in the winter it may take close to 10 min. But thats what I feel is the safest. I'll wait 10 min instead of a new topend and a ruined weekend. Have fun.

ALWAYS wait to really get on it until it's warm. Jetting is another thing to think about...unless you were pretty rich in the summer. I also usually jump up a main size in the winter. Higher octane gas will make no difference with cold weather.

Im a noobie to the banshee still or for that matter the quads..

So what the hell is mains?

I know what jetting is I dunno if i run lean or rich though...

My plugs are always black like oil on them when i takem out..

Never white if that helps..

Mains=main jets, in the carbs, controls fuel/air mixture, primarily from 3/4 throttle to WOT but also flows from just off idle. The most important jetting circuit to dial in.

You might want to check out the jetting FAQ, link below. When it gets colder outside your motor will run leaner if you don't change the jetting (lean is bad), as others have said you typically go up a size or two on the mains for the colder weather, and always make sure to let it warm up fully. Good luck.

I have always ridden in the winter and have never messed with the carbs. I run Amsoil at 80:1 and ride wide open for hours in sub-zero temps. So from my perspective, make SURE it is warmed up and then ride and make SURE you are running a quality oil. I have never burned up an engine in the cold weather but it just may be that I'm the exception to the rule. I guess a cheap sled is about the same cost as a new engine so consider that :shrugani:
