2stroke_addict Posted November 29, 2004 Report Posted November 29, 2004 i am having problems with my banshee and i need help before i spend a lot of money on repairs so here it goes: 2003 banshee with the following mods: -toomey 6 pipes, including jet kit -K&N filter -V-force reeds -boost bottle the problem: poor low-end and midrange power then the high-end kicks in fine, not very good response until it hits high-end, funny thing is that a couple of weeks ago it was fine, and yesterday it started doing this. a few months ago i discovered a very fine layer of sand past the filter but it kept working fine, now, did the sand took this long to take it's toll?? Now my guess it's that it probably needs top-end rebuild, due to loss of compression, altough it has 115 p.s.i in one cilinder and 120 in the other, the mechanics at the dealer say it's fine and yet it feels otherwise. can anyone tell me what causes this powerloss?? thanks Quote
neilgf Posted November 29, 2004 Report Posted November 29, 2004 Has there been any change in air temp? Quote
svtkid78 Posted November 29, 2004 Report Posted November 29, 2004 Where are you from. Did the temperature take a big change. Is your filter clean. You have good plugs in there, and what do they look like. Drive it around at the speed its giving you problems at then kill the engine and look at the plugs. Also that thin layer of sand is because you have a K&N. they are good filters for airflow, but are bad dirt stoppers. Go foam. Quote
RNBRAD Posted November 29, 2004 Report Posted November 29, 2004 It could be your compression, those numbers are a little low. Looks like around a 10 to 12% drop in compression which will drop your low to mid power by 10% so you could be feeling a 4 to 5hp loss in that range, this will not be as evident at higher rpm such as you are experiencing. I'm unsure of your elevation with these numbers and your quads state of tune prior to these symptoms which it's always good to have a basleline to look at. Make sure to take initial compression readings so you have something for a comparison for later reference. Quote

boonman Posted November 29, 2004 Report Posted November 29, 2004 Sounds like it's lean. Revving, and no power indicates that. If you have an airbox, try throwing the lid on it. If not, jet richer by one or two sizes. What do the plugs look like? Also, clean the carbs thoroughly... Quote
