oldturtle Posted November 18, 2004 Report Posted November 18, 2004 I have +5 inch Adrenaline Power Sports swing arm. They keep the stock rear axle carrier and add length between axle carrier and shock mount. After first ride with new swing arm and new non O-ring chain I needed to adjust chain. With axle all the way to rear the chain was too loose. No problem I thought, just remove 1-1/2 links and replace chain. Now the chain is too short to connect up master link. I have wrenched on 2 wheelers all my life and never had this happen before. So I added a short piece of used O-ring 520 to the original stock O-ring chain with 2 master links. The curved cut out slots on bottom of carrier are just not long enough for the 1-1/2 links of removed chain. I will try this set up for awhile and then get new sprockets and new O-ring chain. Does this chain adjustment problem have anything to do with the extra rear axle travel due to longer swing arm? If so, looks like I will occasionally be either too tight or too loose. Better to be too loose. I was wondering if anyone has increased length of cut out slots. Quote

It worked fine, and when you put a new chain on if you swung it up as short as it would go, you ended up with more adjustment. Quote

It worked fine, and when you put a new chain on if you swung it up as short as it would go, you ended up with more adjustment. 282611[/snapback] Thats exactly what I did before I started making swingarms. I swapped to a 13/44 and I had like 1/2 link not enough adjustment. I hogged the slots a bit, pushed the carrier forward and I was set. It took about 1/4" or so Quote

oldturtle Posted November 25, 2004 Author Report Posted November 25, 2004 Finally got around to extending length of chain adjust slot. I drilled 3/8" holes just forward of existing slots and filed out the remaining debris. I now have about 1-1/2 in total adjustment and can run two different lengths of chain whichever I want. I installed shorter chain which moved axle about 1-1/4 in forward. This will be better for my mild power level. Thanks again for the help. Quote
