Rear Axle Nut Help

When you are removing your two rear axle nuts that up against the sprocket hub should you take off your chain before removing the nuts?

I'm not sure y you would need to take off the chain. What are you thinking might happen if you don't take the chain off.

 

And, what are you removing.

You don't need to. When I replace axles, I leave it all there, remove the axle nuts and slide the axle out and just slide the axle back in through the chain and all. Don't see why you have to, what are you doing exactly?

I'm putting on a new Durablue Axle I bent my stock one.

The Clymer tells you to remove your wheels, castle nuts, wheel hubs and then loosen your axle nuts. But it is hard to get leverage to loosen the axle nuts when the wheels and hubs are already off. I think I'm going to have to put the wheels and hubs back on and then loosen the axle nuts first. Thanks for the help!

I always loosen everything & take the hubs off last. If you put a hub back on just snub it on there,...put the nuts on the threaded parts, grab a cheater bar or something & wrap a rag around it,...put it in between the bolts on the hubs so you can have some leverage when loosening the axle nuts. Thats what I do anyhoo.
