itsjustagreat1 Posted September 22, 2004 Report Posted September 22, 2004 Ok, What are the pro's and con's in Shearer inframes vs Cpi inframes on a play ported bike? Quote
kenr74 Posted September 22, 2004 Report Posted September 22, 2004 Well, I just left my engine builders place and asked the same question. I just picked up some Shearers so I wanted his opinion. He basically said that they are close but the Shearers pull a little harder. He did say that they are either on or off though but when they were on I would know it. Quote
sredish Posted September 22, 2004 Report Posted September 22, 2004 CPI have more low/mid power. Not that they're mid power houses, but the CPIs do come on sooner and harder in the low/mid. I'd go for the CPIs personally. I don't think they make anymore power, but the Shearers peak about 500 or so higher in the rpms. Quote
itsjustagreat1 Posted September 22, 2004 Author Report Posted September 22, 2004 What did your builder mean by they were either on or off? Interesting. I ride dunes mostly, and all my buddies run Cpi's and I was thinking of trying something different for drag racing.... I have a ported motor w/welded crank Roller trans, +5 timing 19cc domes in coolhead, boost bottle (I know...they are crap) pro design intake, 1/2 in reed spacers, tdr reeds with ported cages, k&n pods. and pro circuit pipes. I just want more for drag racing, but don't want to sacrifice all my trail riding. Quote
sredish Posted September 22, 2004 Report Posted September 22, 2004 on or off = peaky powerband, either no power or freakin huge power. more like low rpms no power and as your power climbs in rpm, then the power comes on. to ride trails with pipes like these, you'd be clutching a lot, more for high rpm riding. itsjustagreat1 Posted September 22, 2004 Author Report Posted September 22, 2004 I Drive the sand trails at little sahara OK Quote
kenr74 Posted September 22, 2004 Report Posted September 22, 2004 (edited) on or off = peaky powerband, either no power or freakin huge power Yep, what he said. They concentrate all the power on the top end where a pipe like Fattys has it all around but not as much. Basically, if you like to have your bike always screaming then the Shearer will work for you. If you like to cruise and hit the trails though it may not be what you are looking for. I'm getting some porting and then I'll do a review of the Shearers v Fatty's. From what I heard it will be night and day. Edited September 22, 2004 by kenr74 Quote
Big Blue Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 I Drive the sand trails at little sahara OK you will have to clutch quite a bit while riding tight trails but on some of the more open ones i leave it in one gear and run the motor to the top of the power band, me personally i like the power of the shearers better. Minkia38 Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 sounds like I need to run a set of shearers again Rockets for some comparison test - anyone w/ shearers wanna try a set of Rockets out for free, then send them back? Quote

Sounds like fun. I'm going to have my hands full getting the Shearers tuned as it is though. I might take you up on that once I'm back up and running. Should have some new porting, Shearers installed and tuned in a few weeks. Quote
