Big Boi Posted August 8, 2004 Report Posted August 8, 2004 I have a '99 and am waiting on my SST pipes and silencers. I bought the bike used and am assuming it is stock except the snorkel was removed. My question is how do I jet it? I have already ordered 280, 290, 300, 320, and 330 mains. Should I have ordered pilots as well? I am also adding an pro flo with K&N, boost botle, and removing the lid. I live in VA and ride at sea level. Where do I start? Quote
svtkid78 Posted August 8, 2004 Report Posted August 8, 2004 You should be good with the mains that you ordered, as for the pilots you are just going to have to ride it and see. If anything you may have to go up just one size. Just ride it at 1/4 throttle and see what shee does. Make sure you have good throttle response from 1/4 throttle up. Quote
Banchetta Posted August 8, 2004 Report Posted August 8, 2004 Most jetting that I've seen and dialed in myself ended up being 290 mains, needle on the 4th or 5th clip from the blunt end, stock pilots and adjust the air screws to the throttle response... Quote
Ducman Posted August 9, 2004 Report Posted August 9, 2004 I'd start with the 320 mains and see what your plugs look like after a WOT run, if they're very dark brown or you have any WOT bog go to the 300s, you will probably be lean at less than 300. I was lean at 280's with FMF Gnarlies, stock motor, foam filter, lid of, on a cold day (50 deg 250 ft elev.) and your K&N will flow more air. You may need #27.5 or #30 pilots, first try it with the stock pilots and turn the air screws in 1/2 turn at a time (evenly on both carbs of coarse) and see if the idle quality and of idle response is improved or improving. If it is better with the air screws all the way in or within 1/2 turn go up to the next larger size. Needle - middle clip with #30 pilot, 4th or 5th (from blunt end) with stock #25 pilot, middle or 4th with 27.5 Quote
Big Boi Posted August 21, 2004 Author Report Posted August 21, 2004 Thanks for all the help I went with the 320 mains, needle in the 5th clip, and two turns on the air screw. Started on the second kick and was perfect!! thanks again Quote
