splpete Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 (edited) I have been surfin around alot lately on the site and noticed that alot of you boys are running with cut fenders. I understand the MX side on the thing I think, but the shots of the boys all caked out in the mud with the fronts shaved off? I am fairly new to all this and my Shee is not a "complete unit" yet (July 4th, 04) and I have ran a yz250 on track & trail alot but why is it that ya'll cut the fenders off? Don't you get caked in shit? Does it help for aerodynamics? I can say that I know it looks extremely trick but like I said, why? Feel free to bombard me with ucontrolled bomb throwing posts if need be, but I just don't see it yet. I also hope this is the right thread, I would hate to piss off the HQ braintrust that has helped me so much. In the next week I will be posting the machine that all you great guys helped me "sort out" and build up, I hope that my Shee will be to your liking. Just rant on boys.......................... Thanks Scott Edited June 23, 2004 by splpete Quote
kenr74 Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 Well now you have gone and pissed me off!! Actually there are two ways of looking at it. I have mine cut because I mostly ride in the dunes so I don't have to worry about mud flying everywhere. When I ride trails I get dirty. Who cares! It's part of riding. I like being able to see my front tires in tight terrain. The other side is the people who ride mostly trails and want the extra protection from rocks, mud, Hondas........ I always have a helmet on so if I get muddy or catch a rock it doesn't bother me. Quote
stealthawd Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 i like seeing my suspension/wheels and I can see whats going on around my front end. the sick as hell look is an outstanding byproduct of function for me. Quote
splpete Posted June 23, 2004 Author Report Posted June 23, 2004 Thanks kenr74, my common sense had that idea pegged but I was just curious. I do alot of trail riding and I love to get her dirty. But thats the thing, if your in the mud & shit it shoots you right in the face in a turn its makes for one helluva tear off change in cornering motion. I also love riding, one of Gods creatures and few from Yamaha But I still don't enjoy getting more dirty than I could without a cut in my bitch. I have never ran dunes though I would love to but in PA there are not any. But the Q was " what can cutting your plastic do?" Maybe I am still being an assface? Hey man thanks for the reply! Idahospud2004 Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 Hey, Ive owned alot of quads over the years and ride both dunes and trails. I get just as muddy with or without them. It does help you see where your front suspension is and looks bad! Quote
kenr74 Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 What does it do? Well it looks cool of course! I think the main advantages are being able to see your tires/suspension. Less drag/higher top speed. I took mine off after coming to the top of a dune and catching a gust of wind that almost flipped me backwards. What Idahaspud sad is true though. I got just as muddy with the fenders on becuase you really only catch the mud when turning. Quote
