jjdad1958 Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 I need some help guys. My banshee will start and run great. No loss of power or anything when I first ride it. As soon as I turn it off I can't get it started again until it cools off. It has a new top end (I thought that was the problem) and stator. I put on the new stator because it wasn't firing at all. That got it started... Quote
itsaripper Posted June 19, 2004 Report Posted June 19, 2004 (edited) The motor will run till you shut off? It doesn't just die? If it just dies while riding for no reason, I would look at the coil. If it just won't start you have to eliminate some problems. First take a small screw driver and put in the spark plug end and push the kick starter by hand slow. Unless you don't mind getten shocked, it will make ya say Ieeeee!!!! If you have spark then its the gas. If no spark take a ohem meter and see if juice is getting to coil then switch, then if its coming out of stator. Do you have any friend that have a banshee that you could take their CDI off and try when this happens? Edited June 19, 2004 by itsaripper Quote
jjdad1958 Posted June 20, 2004 Author Report Posted June 20, 2004 ripper, it runs good until I shut it off. I went out today and rode it a while. Everytime I shut it off I had a very hard time starting it. I usually had to replace the plug with another one. They were very wet when I pulled them out. After riding again, I could put those same plugs back in and it would start fine. Twice I had another quad pull it and it would start almost immediatly!!! One of the guys there sugested another type of plug.. (hotter) Quote
itsaripper Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 You are getting to much gas if the plugs are wet when ya pull them. When your bike is setting does the carbs leak out onto the ground? Something could be in the needle and seat. Do you know the size of the main jets. If something isn't in the needle and seat then your prolly to big on the mains. What mods do you have? If you have pipes and aftermarket filters. Your jetting should be around 260. Now elevation plays in here too. The higher you are the jetting goes down. If you are closer to sea leval jetting goes up. Have you ever read BenB's jetting fax ? Find one of his posts and it is at the bottem. Copy it for reference its great. Quote
jjdad1958 Posted June 23, 2004 Author Report Posted June 23, 2004 There is no gas leaking from the bottom of the carbs. It is bored .40 over, mains are 240, stock pipes and Dg silencers, and I am running dual k&N filters... It has a new stator and coil.... If you kick it a lot or just get a small pull it fires up pretty good.. It also has a new top end.. Any help??? Quote
itsaripper Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 Well then I would lower the mains one and do a plug check. I say that because my friend had stock pipes and the big K&N. With 220 it poped and snorted alot. With 240s he was over carborated. The new top end restores your compresson back to where it was when brand new. That should give you good throttle response. What pilot jet is in the carbs? Stock is 25. But throttle response is not your problem, flooding is. I seem to be going in circles Maybe someone else can give ya some more ideas. Good luck Quote
94BansheeRider Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 (edited) How old is your bike and does it have the original ignition box? I had the same problem on my 94. Finally one day even a pull start would not turn it over, and I had just ridden it hard for an hour or so. Turned out that the stock ignition box was gradually "frying", then died altogether. If you can borrow another CDI from someone, it may be worth a shot. Just a thought... Edited June 23, 2004 by 94BansheeRider Quote
jjdad1958 Posted June 23, 2004 Author Report Posted June 23, 2004 The bike is a 90 and I think it has the original cdi and the stock pilot jet. I will start by lowering the mains a bit first.. Any idea on how many turns out on the air screws? I heard a lot of different amounts... Thanks for the help guys.... Quote
94BansheeRider Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 Another note: Check the rubber sealing compound that holds the electonics in the CDI box (the side where the wires come out) for signs of cracking and disfigurement. This is a sign the box is giving out. Are you running resistive spark plugs or have changed the plug boots to aftermarket? Quote
