Ignition Problems

I need help my sons banshee has an electrical problem it runs fine when cold but after it warms up it gets to where it wont run at low rpm if i rev it up it stays running sometimes it dies and wont start ok now here is were it gets really baffling if i just touch or unplug the connector for the stator (and plug it right back in of course) it starts right up but will eventually do it all over again sometimes right away sometimes it takes awhile any ideas ANYONE!!!!
