checkster Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 Got my new bars in the mail last night. Got a pair of Tag T2 in CR low bend. Holy shit there low! Even with a bar adapter, which will raise it maybe an inch they look like they going to hit my knee caps. Anybody ever cut the stock stem top off and add a few inches. Figured it would be easy and way cheaper than an aftermarket stem. I was going to add 2 or 3 inches. Any suggestions or comments? Thanks Check Quote
boonman Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 I didn't extend mine, I made a new one. But you can do it, without a pwoblem..... Just be damn sure of your welding skillz. DOn't want ot be blazin down a trail and have that biotch snap in half..... Quote
dogboystoy Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 I did, I added a 1/2". I had bent mine in a rollover. So I took out the stem, Cut off both ends, ground the old weld and tube off the end pieces. Cut a new tube that was a bit thicker wall and 1/2" longer, and welded the ends on. Its pretty easy. You just have to pay attention to make sure that you weld the stop (at the bottom) and the handlebar mount on correctly or you handlebars will be crooked. Good luck. Quote
ledofthezep Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 I'm think of extending mine a couple inches similar to how dogboy did his...I may just make a chrome molly one thats +2, but I'm going to wait until I get some lower bars. Quote
