Nightrider Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Just got my new triple rate steelers from works a few days ago. They make alot of noise, not quite what I'm used to.Anyone who has them probably knows what I'm talkin about. Those little aluminum spacer rings between the two top springs. Any tips on how to keep them from rattling? It looks like the rings slide up and down on the shock body as the springs actuate.Should there be some light grease on them? Quote
Blue Duece Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 hows the preload? sometimes when there sloppy they rattle and squeak id say grease them up and spin the springs sometimes that will shut them up....... Quote
Nightrider Posted March 19, 2004 Author Report Posted March 19, 2004 Its only binding on one spot on the spring.I'll try turning the springs a bit and giving it a shot of grease,I ordered them direct from works for my weight&riding style,The guy at works said their ready to bolt on,but I'll double check the sag tommorrow. All I can say is wow,if I knew it was going to ride like this,Shocks would have been the second thing I bought after better tires and I bought new tires 3 days after I brought it home from the dealer. Thanks Duece. Quote
Blue Duece Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 something else you might wanna check is if when you compress the bike and then let go, like if you jump on your bumber then get off, take a small tape measure and check to see if the measurement from the spring to shaft is the same all the way around i.e. if the spring compresses and is bowing away from the shaft, it will squeak, and thats how guys snap the shafts on works shocks, the spring should stay centered around the shaft after traveling, the fix is a much stiffer sping with your preload set all the way up, works are notorious for light springs with cranked preload for ride height..if you ordered shocks from works and said you weigh 250, and then a different order for a guy weighing 150 you both have the same gage spring but the heavy guys preload would be cranked..thats the kinda stuff that makes the premium shocks more cash and the works less expensive......not to piss on your parade mind you Quote
MILO Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 yep, mine do the same thing. just thought it was normal for them and how they're set up. haven't had any prob's yet, but i'm gonna check it out like blue deuce suggested. Quote
