Importance Of Woodruff Key Correct Sizing

I have a 2001 Banshee and lost my original Woodruff Key. I went to TSC and bought one, but I couldn't find the exact one that I had. I had to step down a size and a little in width.

 

Will it be okay to run it with the smaller one, or do I need the exact one?

if you dont have the right size, the flywheel could rip it in half and could mess everything up. the woodruff key fits perfect in the slot wilth barely any spacing between it and the fly whee so when it spins it doesnt hit it hard and brake it.

Even from a dealer the correct key is only like $3.

 

You need to use the right one, otherwise you will have problems.

you could always just upgrade to a "degree key" that advances your timing. They cost a little more tho, around $25 bucks.
