sandman121383 Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 ok this isn't a banshee problem but i'm hopin maybe one of u guys can help. my friend has an 86 polaris indy 500 sled. it's a big twin cyclinder 2 stroke. the guy he bought it off of said it keeps blowing the cdi box. right now it has spark but my friends afraid to run it cas he doesn't want to blow the new one that he gave him with it. so what could cause this? could it be a voltage regulator? hopefully somebody can shine some light on this problem. sorry for the long post Quote
BenBB Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 CDI's arent' cheap, I'd be afraid to run it too. I dunno, on a Banshee the voltage regulator is on a completely separate circuit from the CDI, it's only there to keep the headlight/taillight bulbs from blowin'. I guess if it was mine I'd find a wiring diagram and/or a service manual and see what goes into the CDI and test from there. Good luck. Quote
sandman121383 Posted February 5, 2004 Author Report Posted February 5, 2004 ya i kno they're not. the banshee's the only thing i and he can relate it to. when we had some electrical probs we'd troubleshoot it and be set but with this snowmobile we're not sure what to do. the box labeled "CDI Ignition" has the plug wires coming out of it so it seems to be the coil as well. i know that a voltage regulator is most likely for lights and accessories but a regulator of somekind is the only thing i can thnk of right now. it runs. he's got spark and ran it for a couple minutes to make sure it does run so it runs fine. anyopne have an other ideas? could it be a bad stator or timing problem maybe? sandman121383 Posted February 6, 2004 Author Report Posted February 6, 2004 i'm gonna bump this, if nobody's got any ideas does anyone atleast know any snowmobile sites. maybe i can get some sled-heads to help me out lol so lets see some links guys! Quote
