I would never buy a new one because there is nothing to a banshee so little can go wrong. If you buy a new one I sure that it would be around the 5500 price range, then you have to buy exhust average 500 bucks then jet kit another 50 bucks or so. Now you are over 6000 bucks, you can buy a very nice banshee with alot of extras for less than 6000. Buying used is the only way to go I think, even if you have to rebuild the top end you will still be saving money.

Just my 1 cents

i'm just the opposite. i wasn't going to buy a used banshee even if it was cheaper. i wanted a new one so i didn't end up dealing with someone elses shotty work. shee's are one of the most modified and accesorized quad's out there, no doubt due to the endless possibilities. and i've seen too many that's been messed with by someone who doesn't have a clue what they are doing. that's where the rumor of shees being so troublesome and high maintenance comes from. at least going with a new one, i know what i'm getting without a doubt, and can mod it up the way i want it to be, and i know it's done right. if i had the extra $$ and wanted a project quad, then i'd find a used and abused shee to tinker with. otherwise, i know exactly what i have and what it's been thru from day 1.
