Cotton eyed Joe Posted January 14, 2004 Report Posted January 14, 2004 I have 2 steel bushings on my upper shock mount (1/2 of a bushing on each side), and on the bottom as well. I have found that the rear suspension squeak is caused by the linkage itself. I loosen it, then retorque it and it goes away for the rest of the week end. Then I take it apart at home and re grease it. Quote

DUNEDEMON Posted January 14, 2004 Report Posted January 14, 2004 Come on guys, I'm not trying to decieve anyone! If you remove the rear shock from the bike you will find two "stepped washers" one on each side of the upper and lower mounts (they are captured by the rubber gromets) theese washers seat next to the bearings (spherical rod end type) in the upper and lower shock mounts. Theese spherical bearings contain a "wiper seal" as an integral part, if the seal becomes dirty or damaged it can let crap into the bearing thus producing noise. (I speak from experience it happened on my '97). The lower shock to swingarm linkage can also produce noise like "Cotton eyed Joe" stated, not sure if said linkage has bearings or bushings. Try grabbing the resivior on the rear shock and moving it side to side in the bike, this is possible because of the bearings. Dunedemon. Quote

DUNEDEMON Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 Could be time for a shock oil change, this would be my best guess. Strange though, from the resivior? Never heard of that before, but if you bike has not had a shock oil change in the last year excessive carbon buildup in the shim stack could be a contributing factor in the noise. DUNEDEMON Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 No, re-charging the shock is the changing / refilling the shock with nitrogen usally done with a repair / rebuild / revalve. The oil change is a seperate process, but will require a recharge at the same time. I don't know where you are located, perhaps try checking with your local shops, make sure they have the correct seal-head removal tool (the banshee rear shock requires a special one) or give "Todd" @ TCS a call (909) 245-7484, he's one of the best IMO. He is in southern CA so shipping may be required plus turn around time may be a factor for you. Dunedemon. Quote

Does anyone know why? it couldnt be coming from the rezz...oil doesnt sqeak...its the spring in the body sqeaking......twist it and it will go away....then probally come back too..........Jacey at acttion motorsports will revale and build it for you.........they are in hesperia california......he worked for yamaha for years and knows his poop.......
