boonman Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 "U" got it Stanley!!! And Jim, I would tap it to 7/16"-20. it should hold. if no, the only option I see to totally core it would be to cut that part of the frame off, and stick a bolt through the backside, (grade 8) and weld the head of the bolt to the backside of the metal. THis way, you would have a "stud" sticking out, that would be tougher than you would ever need, and should hold up. And you can spin it off to your hearts content, as many times as you like. Quote
thecabinboy Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 Good to see im not the only one with this problem, The short term fix for me was to use a longer bolt, but I think i like the idea of chopping the mounts off and fabing new ones when I strip the frame for the powdercoater this summer. I can even mont them 2" back and 1" down if I try real hard. Quote

You're welcome. Sad to say, soft is cheap, thats why they do it. I've stripped a lot of bolts on this thing, and I've tried to replace as much as I can with grade 5 or grade 8 bolts. I hate "butter" bolts. They cause more trouble than they are worth. Quote

Blue Duece Posted January 17, 2004 Author Report Posted January 17, 2004 so do i just cut the fins out?............gotta pic of your shift side case?...... Quote
rebelbanshee2 Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 yep, i even cut around the shifer so i can take the whole cover off by itself Quote
Cotton eyed Joe Posted January 18, 2004 Report Posted January 18, 2004 Doesn't your shift shaft need the support of the stator cover? I was under the impression (and just by looking at it) that it creates a "single shear" situation in which the shift shaft could not only be rotated, but bent as well from a heavy footed shift. Quote

Well, if a certain someone can get out from underneath his pile of "real work" and start rolling over some inventory, I'm sure he'll start making after market stator covers with removable sprocket covers. boonman Posted January 19, 2004 Report Posted January 19, 2004 if a certain someone can get out from underneath his pile of "real work" Well, dammit, stop covering yourself in "real work" and stop screwing around!!! Get to it and start making "fake work" and we'll all be better off!!!! Quote

Get to it and start making "fake work" and we'll all be better off!!!! LOL I have 2 customers that I really enjoy doing their work, and I put a ton of pride in that work. But nothing beats making my own parts. Hell I've worked a full 8 hours without taking a break or lunch or anything and didn't even know it. When I'm doing something for someone else I'm constantly watching the clock. I guess thats what saturdays and sundays are for right??? Doing something you like?? Quote
rebelbanshee2 Posted January 19, 2004 Report Posted January 19, 2004 I guess i didnt think of that, but I have a length of pipe that goes from the shifter to the case that keeps the shaft from moving in and it probably will keep it from bending too..hopefully Quote
