Southside Motorsports Posted December 18, 2003 Report Posted December 18, 2003 I am thinking about getting alcohol conversions done to my carbs. But before i do i was wondering what kind of gains or disadvantages will come along with it. Will it be a significant seat of the pants mod or just somthing little that i won't notice much and won't help my time that much??? Any Advice is greatly appreciated. I am trying to drop my times. Screamin_Banshee Posted December 18, 2003 Report Posted December 18, 2003 YOU WILL NOTICE A LARGE DIFFERENCE! I think it took about 1.5-1.75 tenths or so off my ride when I switched, but it will be more for some, less for some- depending on mods and tuning. Whats your mods? Quote
Southside Motorsports Posted December 18, 2003 Author Report Posted December 18, 2003 Im running A 350 Gas, Stock Stroke, Drag ported, Vito's pistons, Twister Crank, Dyna FS digital ignition, 35 mm pwk's, Pro-Design Cool head w/ 18 cc. domes, Pro-Design intake, Modified Stock reed Cages, CPI out of frame drag pipes. etc Quote
Dragg-on Posted December 18, 2003 Report Posted December 18, 2003 who did your port work?, if he is a good builder, you may be close to 90 hp. I run alcohol and I wont go back to gas. But I love short distance racing, if you are gonna miss dune or trail riding then id stay w/ gas. (your out frame pipes tell me you wont), big differance in pull, eye watering power! Quote
Southside Motorsports Posted December 18, 2003 Author Report Posted December 18, 2003 RDZ racing did my port work....So yes i would say that they are a good builder. Did the alcohol help you get out of the hole better?? Or just downtrack? Quote
Dragg-on Posted December 18, 2003 Report Posted December 18, 2003 WHo me? actually yes. I have a dyno-sheet of my banshee with mods similar to yours, 1st on gas then alcohol. alcohol increased HP thoughout all RPMs. PM me if you care to see it. Quote
SuCioDiFiciL Posted December 18, 2003 Report Posted December 18, 2003 ok.... let me tell you ... alcohol is why much better than race fuel running with alcohol makes your engine run way cooler .. and makes your engine produce more hp its like your running on juice but really arent ... you should go for it you will see a LARGE difference like screaming banshee said..... MULLET~BOY Posted December 18, 2003 Report Posted December 18, 2003 i went from 180 degrees always watching temp guag to make sure i wouldn't over heat to having a hard time getting ti to 150 degrees i also noticed a huge incresse in power Quote
Forcefed Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 4.4-4.5 300ft Gas no-bottle 350--stock frame,A-arms, and axle. There is more to be had with Alky. Quote
snowprophet1 Posted December 21, 2003 Report Posted December 21, 2003 What drawbacks are there to running alky? Is it less lubrication and harder on the motors internals, or is it harder to read the plugs on alky? I bought some shearer out of frames from a fellow member and may want to just set it up for drag. Quote
Dragg-on Posted December 21, 2003 Report Posted December 21, 2003 drawbacks: cant go to a gas station and fill-up. you will burn alcohol 2x faster than gas. (although gas mileage should be the least of your worries when it comes to racing) drawback: must be purged/ flushed from motor with gasoline mix after ride/ racing. Benifit: Motor runs COOLER and FASTER! Quote
Southside Motorsports Posted December 21, 2003 Author Report Posted December 21, 2003 Hey Dragg-On could i see those dyno sheets....just so i have an idea of what kind of power gains to expect. It would be much appreciated. You can either post them on here or email them to me at this address. ([email protected]) Quote
