QuadMX Posted December 16, 2003 Report Posted December 16, 2003 I have a 77 Ski-Doo that my boss gave me a little while ago. He said it had running problems and if I wanted to work on it I can just have it. Anywho...We got some snow the other day and I took it out for a little spin. Drove a little while, and let my friend ride it a bit and it died. Today I took it out when I got home. It ran perfect for maybe...10 minutes. Run pretty much WOT in order to keep going a decent speed. It ran at about 7-8k RPMs and after 10 minutes or so even at WOT the RPMs dropped slowly to about 4k where I couldn't move anymore, and then I let off the throttle and it just died. After that it wouldn't start anymore. It runs good for 10 minutes and then just gets real crappy and then won't start anymore. Anybody got any suggestions to what I can maybe check on? Thanks a lot. Later Bob Quote
chase73 Posted December 16, 2003 Report Posted December 16, 2003 could be a lot of things how old is the gas in it and does it have fuel pressure ???? sounds to my like a fuel problem you may want to check out the fuel pump and the carbs could be gummed up from sitting around all summer not stored correctly ( summerized) maybe clean out carbs and make sure the jets are not clogged and all passages are clear does it have fuel filter ??? check that 2its pretty old so its worth checking it out Quote
QuadMX Posted December 16, 2003 Author Report Posted December 16, 2003 Its all good stuff. Just put new fuel in it and cleaned out the carb and everything before I even tried to run it. I'm gonna try putting new gas lines on it though and see if that does anything. Quote
blk02banshee Posted December 16, 2003 Report Posted December 16, 2003 my friend's did that, and it was the cdi box. How's the spark, when it dies? Quote
99Red_Roostr Posted December 16, 2003 Report Posted December 16, 2003 My vote is jetting, check the color of the plugs, the should be light brown. 99rr Quote
QuadMX Posted December 16, 2003 Author Report Posted December 16, 2003 Spark seems fine yet after it dies. The jetting is good too, plugs are pretty close to what color they are sposed to be. But if it was the spark, why would it run fine for 10 minutes when its cold, and then once it gets warm it runs like shit? Quote
spoin39 Posted December 17, 2003 Report Posted December 17, 2003 Check the fuel pump. I had a old liquifire john deere and it would do the same thing. It has a diaphragm in the fuel pump and it probably has a hole in it. Quote
