fixitrod Posted December 19, 2003 Author Report Posted December 19, 2003 Great advice. The components of course come with a passive crossover that actually pulls the bass from the mid bass subs. It's a very nice passive crossover. The head unit has a built in crossover that allows you to adjust front, rear and sub output seperately. So, even if the alpine crossovers don't work well, the head unit works as an active crossover. I will be installing all my own stuff. 10 guage to the radio and 4 gauge for the amp in case I do get another. I understand what you are saying about the components ... really. I probably will get an amp for the doors later. I listened to 5 sets of components and most of the didn't sound as good as these. I ask him why the more expensive ones didn't sound as good and he said the same thing you are saying...because they don't have an amp on them. I have done a lot of stereos but mostly speaker enclousre design... not setting up mids and highs. I set them up... but never had a head unit that I could change the timing to the speakers to improve imaging and so on. As far as the places not understanding filtering, you are correct. The one place that I keep speaking about on the other hand has a sales guy that did home and car installs for 22yr... which is nice not to be smarter than the guy you are asking questions.... lol. Oh, and the speakers do not fit. I knew that when I got them. I have built adapter/spacer plates from 1/2" mdf. They work perfect. $6 for a 2x2 sheet. Can't beat that. They are ready to go for when the speakers arrive. Thanks for all your advice guys. I have the reciever in hand. I'll get that in tonight along with all the wiring for my amp. Quote
Killer Boots Man Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 If u know anyone in canada tell them to go to canadian tire and pick up all of your stereo shit you will save a bundle because of exchange an canadian tire sells there stereo shit for super cheap i know a guy who owns a car audio shop and he says there prices are below his cost Quote
Justintoxicated Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 cool man, he wasen'y lying, you can make crappy speakers sound much better than others by using a good amp. Otherwise they will all sound about the same crappyness. I notice sometimes companies will do this to sell you the speakers they make the most profit off (not impying this is your case). Are you sure the crossover does not seperate the Tweeters from the Mids? Most components come with a crossover that you plug both sets into but it is just for the tweeters. Im not up to date but I know the concepts. My Face does not allow front and rear adjustments seperately , just fade.....That adjustment is a nice feature for fine tuning really, but you should not rely on it to fully adjust; Although it will get you by untill you upgrade that shit Quote
boonman Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 I keep hearing that you can't make a stereo system sound good running speakers off the head unit. Well, you can, I have done it many times. You have to know your shit, but it can be done. not if you are going to competition, but if you are going to competition, you wouldn't be asking stereo questions on Bansheehq.com. I can guarantee you that you can sit in my rig with ALL my mids and tweets running off the head unit, and you wouldn't know the difference. I am NOT saying that an amp won't make things possibly better, but you would have to have a better speaker. I don't understand the concept of a shitty speaker getting an amp thrown on it and having it sound better. not likely. I am sure someone is gonna tell me about his friends brothers cousins sisters boyfriends car that had some audiovox speakers in his crapmaro and he threw a Boss 12,000,000 watt amp on it with his sparkomatic head unit pumpin out his favorite Guns and Roses tape and man that shit was oh so sweet sounding. I just don't buy it. Also, you have to have a clean signal. As clean as you can afford. There is a stereo for every budget, and it can be made to sound good provided you spend your hard earned $$$ in the right places. Quote
