Erod76
Hey all my name is Erick and I'm fairly new to banshees and to the site ..I just picked up a 2003 in pretty good condition .. bike was running well when I first got it about 4 weeks ago however it was running a little choppy and would not idle too well. FYI I live in NY and it's winter time here and it's been pretty cold lately and where from 15-30 degrees Fahrenheit so I'm assuming the jets probably play into this ... anyways the bike was running decent enough to at least take it through the trails but kept shutting off wheniwould leave it to idle ... I had no idea about the tors or the removal kit so I started to play with the slides and was eventually able to get it to idle forever ... I feel retarded now because I see who ever had the bike before me already did the tors removal kit and I could have just used the idle screws .. I'm assuming I messed something up with the slides because gen it started to run really choppy and then started back firing out of the right exhaust ... so much to the point that next time I took it out it bogged out in 3rd ear and just shut off and will not start back up ... I watched a video on how to re sync the carbs and I think I got them perfect but sill the bike does not start ... I decided to check the spark plugs just to see and both plugs are absolutely black and not generating spark... I changed both and put two new plugs in and even the new plugs are not generating spark so now I am at a complete stand still ... any input ? And I'm not the best with engines or engine savy so please lamens terms
Ayesully810
welcome to the hq are you for sure that you are not getting spark? Pull both plugs out with the spark plug caps still on them, then hold the spark plug to the head and kick it over to see if you can see the blue spark from the plug. Erod76
Yeah I've pulled the plugs and left them attached to the boots and I see no spark
Ayesully810
How good of condition are your boots and wires? First thing I would try next before getting into the rest of the electrical stuff ( cdi, coil, stator, pickup coil) is trimming some of the wire off of the cap wires. Unscrew the boots from the wires, cut an 1/8 in. off, grease them and screw the boots back in and see if that does anything. Also I would buy a clymer manual if you are not familiar with banshee motors or components. Edited March 11, 2017 by Ayesully810
sleeper06
Also you should use dielectric grease on electrical components because it's non conductive. Where in ny are you. I'm in Long Island

Erod76
So I checked all the connections, coil, boots and stator ..,, the coil and the boots are reading with in specs ... I can't get a reading when I test the stator after I disconnect it from the harness, could that mean it's fried?

Erod76
lol I've watched every video and I've tested the exact same way ..as I said I got all good readings except for the stator connections with the red and green wife..: gettting absolutely no reading ... does that mean that my stator is done ? Could it be as simple as replacing the stator and cable to the harness and hopefully that will do the trick.?
Ayesully810
If you already tested everything else and your stator is toast then yeah. If you get a new stator it will already have the hook up (either square or circle style) What style plug in do you have? Square or circle? ANything 96 and up is square I think so just be sure to get the same style you have now that way you can use the same harness.
