I already searched the forums so I apologize if that has already been discussed.  Would going from 14/43 gearing to a 40 on the back make launching in 2nd easier?  I gotta rev to the moon to leave in 2nd currently.  Any thoughts?

I didnt know if that would make 2nd gear shorter and then make the other gears longer? idk .. I dont know much about gearing thats what I am asking.  But thank you

I'm not a drag setup expert by any means, but I'd assume that would make it even harder.

I dont do any serious drag, just play drags here and there. But it would be nice to have a setup thats good for that every now and again as far as gearing. Thats why I was thinking stock (or close to it with the 40)

Small rear sprocket is taller gearing

Small front sprocket is shorter gearing.

So the oposite of each would be the othe way around.. so if I go 40 on the back it will make it harder to take off in 2nd like I inquired about?

Going smaller on the back sprocket will make launching in 2nd harder.  Stock gearing is 14/41, but a 13/41 would make launching in 2nd gear much easier, but it will also make all of the gears shorter, and decrease your top speed.

Too many variables to say he should be able to launch with that gear. He may have taller or more aggressive tires, he may weigh a lot more.

Well then banshee2626 is correct. Hell you should be able to almost take off in 3rd with 14/43!

I was kinda implying that you were heavy without saying it. But that is not the case.

Im putting in a new clutch right now so that might have had something to do with it.. when I pulled off my old one I had a bunch of snapped friction plates. I guess Ill know once its put back together.

When I drag race my bike, I ran 15/14 and launches in 1st. I set it up to launch in 1st due to my n-down 1-5 override. Worked fine. I did have to Rev It to hell to brake loose the pro wedges but it worked. If you can launch in second with 14/43, it makes me wonder if you have a jetting issue That it isn't making power
