Zach Thomas Posted January 28, 2016 Report Posted January 28, 2016 Hey guys I can't seem to find a clear answer on this since every topic I find talks about aftermarket heads, not the stock head. I've got a project shee that needs a top end and it's already at 65.5mm (.060" over). If I bore up to 66mm will the stock head run properly with the bores that oversized? Again I've seen everyone say 66mm is good when using aftermarket domes, but nothing specific to the stock head. Thanks. Quote
troyzstang Posted January 28, 2016 Report Posted January 28, 2016 Have you considered just starting fresh. If it were me I would find a set of virgin cylinders and go from there. They pop up all the time here and you could probably find a complete set up for a more then fair price. Good luck either way. Quote
Zach Thomas Posted January 28, 2016 Author Report Posted January 28, 2016 I would like to do that, but right now with this being a backup bike I'm trying to go cheap to be honest. Being that it won't see a whole lot of riding (maybe 5-6 3 day trips a year, and most of the time I'll be riding my trx450) I'm not too bothered about the cylinders being at the end of their lifespan. But that being said, it may be a couple months before I really get into rebuilding it so if I can come up with some spare money then I will likely try to find some cylinders with more life left in them Quote

Won't ever notice a difference. Quote
87sheerips Posted January 28, 2016 Report Posted January 28, 2016 I ran .100" over cylinders with a stock head and it lasted me many seasons. Little bastard ran good too back in the day. Quote
Zach Thomas Posted January 28, 2016 Author Report Posted January 28, 2016 Glad to hear that guys, thanks! This is my third shee and my second full rebuild. It's only going to have pod filters, +4 timing, pipes and maybe down the road a cool head. Stock port and a stock welded crank. So I'm glad to hear it'll run good! I've ridden a couple "65-70 hp" banshees and while they're fun I've been plenty happy with my basic bolt on equipped shees Quote
Zach Thomas Posted January 28, 2016 Author Report Posted January 28, 2016 And the only reason it's even getting those mods is because I'll be digging through some friends' spare parts bins to get this together. Gotta love that Quote
