If I were to go short rod 4mil crank would I need to get my cylinder windows opened up? Also would I have to get my head cut still? Thinking bout trying this build

short rod long rod, have the same stroke, but the pin height has been moved in the piston, short rod is 5 mm shorter but the piston pin is also 5 mm lower. so the piston is going to be in the same place as long rod, just pivot lower into the piston.

just go long rod setup.

I had a long run it was really fun but I'm just looking to try some different setups for trail riding... Would I need a full blown port job or just the intake windows

If you have a choice go long rod the rod angle is much more desirable and IMO a better build. I've seen short rods shake apart . I've also put a few together that are still zingin three yrs later

How cheap and what's the condition, there's a reason it's few and far between you see anything about em on this site , and a reason no builder will recommend it .more food for thought the crank is the heart of your engine , treat your heart good and it will treat you good . The added stroke with short rod put unneeded stress on the piston skirt . Don't say I didn't worn you

You wanna try something diffrent for trail riding, stock stroke long rod with torque porting , boost porting , high compression, race gas , some timing . Power everywhere. I've rece built a few and they are fun and rev excellent

just wanting to try something different after people specifically told you to do longrod to me says i wanna be cheap and waste money on some second hand parts that probably wont last. Get a brand new hot rods long crank, get a good supporting vendor to port it, and ride it.

I've had a long rod before yes...but I didn't know if the short rod would work like a stock crank instead...reason for my questions. And sleeper also, said he's built these before and had one kick around for 3 years... I'm jus seeing what others ppl thoughts are

there's no sleeper about it. It's just the crank. It's not like you are shoving a bigger than 10mil crank in stock jugs and cases. No one is really gonna care if you have a long or short rod. Just go with the most reliable bottom end.

Well that's what I was asking if I do short rod crank to make a stock cylinder 4mil trail bike if ppl like it.. I mean figure ppl had some good input either they tried it and liked it or no
