Bigborebanshee375 Posted April 3, 2015 Report Posted April 3, 2015 I have a 392 Athena kit with a 4 mill and was wondering if it would be safe to get the head plained just to be safe since I blew the head gasket? Any help is appreciated thanks in advance. Quote
hercalmighty Posted April 3, 2015 Report Posted April 3, 2015 Do you know what your squish is? If not, measure it before you get the head plained Quote
Bigborebanshee375 Posted April 3, 2015 Author Report Posted April 3, 2015 I have no idea. I'm new to the banshee. I'm taking the head off tonight. Stupid question but what is squish? Quote
hercalmighty Posted April 3, 2015 Report Posted April 3, 2015 It's the measured distance between your piston at tdc and the head. It's pretty simple to do. Search for the procedure and do it before you take your head off. Quote
Dixie normus Posted April 3, 2015 Report Posted April 3, 2015 It would be easier to Just do a search on here about squish. That being said. The head needs to be on the motor to check squish Quote
Bigborebanshee375 Posted April 3, 2015 Author Report Posted April 3, 2015 OK that shouldn't be a problem to do then. How much clearance would you say I would need to have enough room to plain the head? Quote
hercalmighty Posted April 3, 2015 Report Posted April 3, 2015 Measure your squish then you will know how much you can mill your head. For a mild motor a good squish would be about .045 to .055 inches 1 Quote
Bigborebanshee375 Posted April 3, 2015 Author Report Posted April 3, 2015 Ok thanks for the info. Really appreciate it. Quote
sleeper06 Posted April 3, 2015 Report Posted April 3, 2015 If you don't need much just a resurface, I use a block of granite and sheet of sandpaper move head in figure 8s start 100 grit then 220 finish 400 it's pretyy easy just keep in light pressure . Measure it before h start and when done on a plain resurface I have seen anywhere between .003-.007 taken of head Quote
Bigborebanshee375 Posted April 4, 2015 Author Report Posted April 4, 2015 OK. I will try that when it warms up. Thanks Quote
